Young musicians competing for cash and chance at a solo

WHITTIER – The Whittier Regional Symphony will host its Young Artists Competition on Saturday, March 7, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Memorial Chapel at Whittier College.

Instrumental contestants prepare a full concerto or concert piece and a solo piece of contrasting style. Vocal contestants prepare three works: an aria from Opera; an Art Song or a Lieder; and a song from a musical or operetta.

The two top winners will perform as soloists during the 2020-21 Whittier Regional Symphony season, each in a separate performance.

Each winner will also receive a $1,000 cash prize. Musicians placing second in each category will receive $500 cash prizes.

The competition is open to the public. Admission is free and tickets are not necessary.
