Whittier Library Foundation wants your “Dear Whittier” stories

WHITTIER — The Whittier Library Foundation is soliciting stories from the public for an upcoming series titled “Dear Whittier.” 

Every year, the foundation chooses a book for the Whittier community to read. This year the book chosen is “Dear Los Angeles: The City in Diaries and Letters 1542-2018,” edited by David Kipen. 

The author will visit Whittier on April 21 at a 6:30 p.m. dinner at Friendly Hills Country Club. 

The foundation is asking Whittier residents to write a story about their true experiences, memories or adventures in Whittier (past or present). Some of the stories will be read at the foundation’s April “Whittier Reads” events and may be reprinted in a remembrance booklet. 

Deadline to submit a “Dear Whittier” story is Feb. 29. By submitting a story, you give permission to the Whittier Public Library Foundation to edit, read in public, copy, exhibit, publish or distribute your story. 

Stories can be submitted via email to  Acceptable formats are Word files in Times New Roman, 12-point font or as text in an email. Do not scan your story. 

Submissions must be less than 500 words and become the property of the foundation. You may enter more than one story. 

Be sure to type your name (as you want it printed), address, phone number, email, and date at the bottom of your story. Only your name will be printed with your story.
