Suspect in 2017 fatal hit-and-run extradited from Australia
WHITTIER — The prime suspect in a fatal 2017 hit-and-run was returned to the United States today where she was taken into custody by Whittier police officers.
Authorities suspect Andrea Dorothy Chan Reyes was behind the wheel of a white Lexus when she struck 46-year-old Agustin Rodriguez Jr. on Jan. 30, 2017, near Calmada Avenue and Flomar Drive. Rodriguez died of his injuries.
Reyes allegedly fled to Hong Kong, where she lived until moving to Australia. Law enforcement officials in Australia captured Reyes on an international arrest warrant.
After an extradition process that lasted more than a year, Reyes was returned to the United States, landing at Van Nuys Airport this morning. The Whittier Police Department took her into custody on charges of felony hit and run and felony vehicular manslaughter.
Investigators said they found Reyes’ Lexus inside a garage in Idaho.
