Residents urged to stay home as Whittier area reaches 50 coronavirus cases
WHITTIER — The number of known coronavirus cases in Whittier continues to climb, with Monday’s number at 50, including incorporated and unincorporated parts of the city.
Health officials announced 420 new cases across all of L.A. County, along with 15 deaths. Authorities are not revealing the locations the deaths occurred.
PIH Health said it was treating 14 confirmed coronavirus cases at its Whittier hospital, including six who are hospitalized in the intensive care unit. Another 12 patients are suspected to have Covid-19.
Twenty-five cases have been identified in Whittier, in addition to 17 cases in South Whittier and eight cases in West Whittier.
Rising coronavirus numbers across the country prompted White House officials to urge the public to stay home.
“This is the moment not to be going to the grocery store, not going to the pharmacy, but doing everything you can to keep your family and your friends safe,” said response coordinator Deborah Birx.
