Republic Services launches initiative to help employees and local restaurants
WHITTIER — Republic Services has launched “Committed to Serve,” a national initiative to recognize its frontline employees in the field, their families, and small business customers across the country.
Republic Services provides solid waste collection services for the eastern side of Whittier.
Republic Services’ 28,000 frontline employees will receive a weekly meal, a weekly dinner for employees and their families, and bi-weekly $100 gift cards ($400 per employee) to be spent locally to help stimulate the economy of municipalities they provide solid waste collection services to.
All meals will be purchased from local, small businesses to help support Republic Services’ customers and the communities it serves.
In the Whittier and Santa Fe Springs area, Republic Services is providing meals for 160 employees per week. To date, over 1,880 meals have been purchased from local restaurants in the area, including City of Whittier restaurants such as Lascari’s Restaurants, Original Roadhouse Grill, Crepes and Grapes Café, and City of Santa Fe Springs restaurants such as Casa Gazcon, Baja 2000 and Chipotle.
“Small businesses are often hit the hardest during times of uncertainty. The ‘Committed to Serve’ initiative is a gesture of support for both our employees and our local small businesses, many of whom are our customers,” said Tania Castaneda, Municipal Relationship Manager with Republic Services and Board Member of the Whittier Area Chamber of Commerce. “The reaction from small business owners and employees has been pure appreciation. Additionally, our employees feel a sense of pride being able to give back to the local community they serve.”
