Renderings show new retail strip at former Polly’s Pie site
WHITTIER – Whittier officials are getting their first look this week at preliminary plans for a new commercial retail strip at the former Polly’s Pie lot.
Located at 14136 Whittier Blvd., the proposed center would house up to four suites for general retail uses.
The site has enough room for 23 parking spaces, one short of the city’s requirement of 24 spaces for a project of this size. The developer will be seeking a variance from the city.
If the project moves forward, a mature pine tree at the corner of Whittier Boulevard and Calmada Avenue would be removed and replaced with three Crape Myrtle trees, according to plans. More trees would be installed on other parts of the property.
Whittier’s Design Review Board will consider architectural elements of the project at its meeting Thursday.
The property was the longtime home to Polly’s Pies before the restaurant was destroyed in a 2013 fire.
