Jessica Martinez leads race for council seat and Assembly
WHITTIER — Jessica Martinez appears on her way to capturing Whittier’s District 1 seat but how long she’ll remain on the City Council remains to be seen.
With 553 votes, Martinez led Andrew Roble (271 votes) and Magdalena Barragnon Moe (225) to take the seat being left vacant by Councilman Josué Alvarado, who did not seek re-election. The results were as of 2 a.m. Wednesday.
Martinez, a Republican, also led all candidates in the 57th Assembly District race. She will head to a November runoff against Democrat Lisa Calderon.
If Martinez wins in November, she would be forced to vacate her City Council seat.
