Happy Thanksgiving from the mayor
When we started the Mayor’s column several weeks ago, the thought was to have the column discuss current going’s on in Whittier, things of interest, some of my musings. So, for today I wanted to talk briefly about Thanksgiving, why it is so important and our local businesses. I recognize Thanksgiving was yesterday, but we can never be too thankful.
Thanksgiving is our national holiday where collectively we stop and slow down (at least we are supposed to) and think about the blessings that we have here in America… our families, our way of life. And I don’t know about you but it just seems like of late everything is so negative… people talking about other people, people being just plain mean.
So on this Thanksgiving, I encourage us to stop and think about all the good things that we have and how fortunate, how blessed we are, to have all that we have in America, in Whittier. Importantly, we need to stop and thank the Lord for His blessings. So, let’s remember why Thanksgiving started way back when (remember the Pilgrims?) and let’s carry on our tradition of thankfulness from generation to generation.
And, I would be remiss if I didn’t say something about our businesses that employ so many Whittierites. We’re in the holiday season, and Whittier has officially recognized this Saturday as Small Business Saturday. After Black Friday this year, please SHOP SMALL to directly support your friends’ and neighbors’ businesses and keep your tax dollars in our community! (Learn more at www.shopsmall.com)
