GoFundMe raises $25,000 for slain 7-Eleven clerk
WHITTIER — A GoFundMe page has collected more than $25,000 in donations for the 7-Eleven worker killed in a robbery Saturday morning.
Maninder Singh Sahi leaves behind a wife and two children, ages 5 and 9.
The robber entered the 7-Eleven store at Lambert and Santa Fe Springs roads at around 5:45 a.m. Saturday. Police said Sahi was complying with the robber’s demands but was still shot with a semiautomatic handgun.
Two customers were inside the store at the time of the shooting. They were not hurt.
The shooter is described as a black male, about 5 ft. 6 inches tall. He was wearing a black hoodie with a blue bandana over his face.
Sahi worked at 7-Eleven to support his family, who remains in India. The GoFundMe page is raising money to send his body back home.
“I am seeking assistance to help send his body back to India so his wife and kids can view him one last time,” said Harpreet Guraya, Sahi’s cousin and the organizer of the GoFundMe.
Sahi’s parents were hospitalized after being informed of their son’s death, law enforcement officials said.
Anyone with information on the shooting is asked to call Whittier Police at (562) 567-9281.
