Car wash gets OK to open at Lambert and Greenleaf
WHITTIER – The intersection of Lambert Road and Greenleaf Avenue will look drastically different after a drive-thru car wash had its conditional use permit approved by the Planning Commission on Monday.
The car wash will be located at the intersection’s northeast corner, replacing an upholstery shop and nail salon.
Measuring 3,137 square feet, the automated car wash will feature a pay station and 19 vacuum stalls. Permitted hours of operation are 7 a.m. to 10 p.m., seven days a week.
The car wash’s entrance will be enhanced with decorative stamped concrete or pavers, which was a condition of approval, said Conal McNamara, community development director for Whittier.
The city’s Design Review Board approved the car wash’s Spanish architectural design on Oct. 10.
“It’s as nice looking as a car wash gets,” said Planning Commissioner Todd Borzi. “I think there’s been some effort put in there and that’s appreciated.”
Commission chair Charles Claver said he had reservations about the car wash’s permitted hours of operation but said no nearby residents have objected to the project. There are also plans in place to mitigate noise from the vacuums and dryer.
“We haven’t heard any opposition on [the car wash],” Claver said. “The project is, I think, a significant improvement to what it is now…it’s going to be a very attractive project.”
