Brewery plans Art Deco architecture at Uptown Whittier location
WHITTIER – Whittier’s newest microbrewery moved closer to opening when its design plans gained city approval earlier this month.
La Bodega Brewing Company plans to open at 6711 Comstock Avenue in Uptown Whittier.
The brewery will remodel the store’s outdoor façade to resemble an art deco architectural style but no other modifications are planned for the site.
Whittier’s Design Review Board voted 5-0 in support of the façade changes, which include black metal arches over clear glass with new front entry doors. The brewery is also installing decorative brass light fixtures around the building.
“The new storefront windows will consist of clear glass to enable passerby to peer inside of the building, which is anticipated to have a modern atmosphere,” city officials wrote in a report to the City Council last week. Council members received and filed the report.
The brewery is expected to request extended operating hours from the Planning Commission at a later date.
